Some people are SO hard to shop for. You have at least one of those people on your Holiday shopping list, right? I’m pretty sure we all do. A lot of times, it because they don’t really need or want for much, but that doesn’t mean we don’t want to find the perfect cool gifts to give. Take for example, my husband. The go-to Christmas gift for him from my sister? An iTunes gift card.
My husband is one of those people. He has the patience of a two year old (and I mean that in a really loving way) but he never gives me a chance to go out and buy something for him before he buys it for himself. That makes gift giving hard! I’m constantly struggling to find him something that he will appreciate and actually be able to use.
Where We Shop
When we got married (about a million years ago), we spent a lot of time trolling the aisles of Best Buy. The hubs has always had an affinity for video games, movies, music and electronics. Best Buy was somewhere we could go, he could look at what he enjoyed and I could look at the things that interested me (back then, it was the computers and computer software) when we just wanted to get out of the house. It was also a place I could always go to find him a gift. At the very least, I could leave the store with a Best Buy gift card and know that he would love it and use it.
Today, things really aren’t that different. Best Buy is still my go-to store when it comes to gifts for my husband. They’ve made it easy for me to see what’s popular by adding a section on their site that shows what’s currently trending. I love that there showrooms are always well staffed, their salespeople are knowledgeable and they have a killer warranty program (I’ve had plenty of experience with their warranty program.) I know a lot of people prefer to avoid stores all together and shop online, but I really like to touch, feel, hold the things I’m buying. It gives me a chance to put my eyes on things in person and feel confident about my purchase.
So, I head out to shop…
So, What Do I Buy?
The first place I headed was back to the computers/tablets area of the showroom. Yes, he has a laptop, and yes – and iPad too, but he also has an uncle that works for Microsoft. The Microsoft Surface was discussed quite a bit at Thanksgiving dinner and Hubs seemed intrigued. I figured it was worth a look. For someone who doesn’t already have both a laptop and a tablet, I think this would be an excellent choice. For Hubs, maybe this will be better when we need to replace one or the other.
Our local Best Buy, as I’m sure yours does, carries a selection of local team themed gear. Hubs is a football fan for sure, and he does need a new case for his iPhone, but they were all out of the size he’d need. Still, I could pick up anything here and he’d love it. Most people can always use a USB drive (memory stick) or mouse pad. Both are great smaller “stocking stuffer” options.
Hubs has a beard, one that he keeps trimmed short, but I know he’d like to trim it himself between his bi-weekly trips to the barbershop. This clipper set from Wahl would be great for anyone with a shorter hair style or facial hair that needs some upkeep (and what facial hair doesn’t?). It would be a very practical gift, one that could be appreciated all year long.
Best Buy gift cards. I mentioned these before. Hubs always appreciates a gift card, especially a Best Buy gift card. There’s no limit to the number of things he could find to buy for himself there, and I dare say that even the most hard to shop for person (even my kids) can find something at Best Buy to fill their own personal wish list.
Most everyone has joined the world of mobile music these days… either a iPhone, iPod, MP3 player or just listening on their PC/Mac. Hubs loves music. LOVES music. We don’t have the same tastes, so I never try to buy him music. I will get him iTunes gift cards from time to time (you can almost be guaranteed that there will be one in his stocking) but I do try to branch out a bit. I considered a portable speaker (and Best Buy has tons of options for those), but Hubs is mostly listening to music at work or when he’s out and about (plus – I already have a portable speaker upstairs and well… it is portable after all.) Ultimately, these Apple EarPods caught my eye. Hubs loves the sound quality of his Apple EarBuds, but he has complained about them not being comfy. I quick bit of research on my iPhone revealed that these have the same sound quality and are much more comfortable. It also revealed that Best Buy was already in line with the best price I could find, so there was no chance to use Best Buy’s Price Match policy, but that’s ok. I always check anyway.
At the end of the trip, I walked away satisfied with my selection, all the while knowing that if I changed my mind, I’d get no grief if I decided to return them. Best Buy has always had the best customer service! They really do take care of their customers. Speaking of…
