5 Songs I Can’t Get Enough Of
Turn On, Tune Out
Sometimes there comes a point when I need to turn off my brain. Sometimes it’s on my way home from the office at 4:30. Sometimes it’s on my way to work at 6:45 in the morning (side note – people who really know me know that I’m habitually late, so the more accurate time here would be 6:55 AM). From time to time, it may even be while my children have surrounded me, shouting demands. When that happens, the first thing I reach for is my iPhone. That’s where my music lives. After I scavenge for ear buds (I don’t know how I misplace so many of those things), I pull up and get lost in the music.
I find it impossible to listen to music without singing, tapping the beat with my foot, or sometimes doing both. This is much to the dismay of those trying to concentrate on something else when I’ve plugged up. Getting lost in the music, in the lyrics, lets me turn off the steady flow of info in my head and center myself. I love music so very much.
I enjoy a fairly eclectic range of artists. You can find just about anything on my iPhone from 1996 Ice Cube to the soundtrack to Chicago. I go through phases of listening to songs over and over again. Here’s the top 5 songs I’ve got on repeat right now…
Royals – Lorde
I think it’s the beat of this song that sucks me in. And, did you know Lorde is just a teen. Wow. I’m feeling old.
Little Lion Man – Mumford & Sons
There’s some bad language in this one. Just one word, but it’s a bad one and it gets said a lot, so throw in some ear buds or shoo the kids away before you listen.
Let It Go – Idina Menzel (from the Frozen Soundtrack)
Amazing movie, amazing song. The whole soundtrack really. Go see the movie, ASAP!
Murder in the City – Avett Brothers
I love the message in this song. It’s about what’s important in life and keeping that in check. Also, they’re local boys and I’ve got to support my locals.
Say Something – A Great Big World (with Christina Aguilera)
I love the sound of this song, even though the lyrics are incredibly sad. It’s one of those I belt out in the car, heading down he highway, people looking at me like I’m crazy. I’m ok with it.
What Are You Grooving To?
So, I’ve shared what’s on my “most played” list these days, what’s on yours? I’m always looking to add something new to my rotation (aka – play it until I run it into the ground). What suggestions do you have for me? Any bands or songs I absolutely must check out? What do you think of my current choices? Are we musical besties?
