Danica Patrick, Aligators and Things That Go Boom

These three things may mean nothing to most of you, but to me they are potentially a recipe for disaster.
I started a new little adventure last night, when after months and months of saying I needed to do it, I started the process of moving this site away from GoDaddy (thus the Danica Patrick) and over to Host Gator (are you following?) and to a self hosted set-up.  I know… If you’re not into ‘web’ stuff, it’s really a whole lot of gibberish.  I know enough to be dangerous.  I know enough to think I’m capable of doing this on my own (maybe).  I know just enough to possibly blow the whole thing up.
Stick around for me, will you?  If you can’t access the site for a day or two later this week, promise me you won’t abandon me?  I know this will probably not be a seamless transition for me, but it will be a good one… I can feel it!
Now, some of you might actually know what I’m talking about.  Some of you might actually have some advice for me.  If you do, please share it!  I can use all the free help I can get here.
In the meantime, you can keep track of me on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.
Cross your fingers for me!

  1. Oh, man. Yes, yes I know EXACTLY what you are talking about! We moved from Go Daddy to Host Monster awhile back. It was…um…let’s just say stressful. (of course we tend to stress out for things like WordPress updates so a site move is daunting)
No words of wisdom except to back up everything on a 3rd party site just in case. It gave us peace of mind! Good luck and we’ll be here to follow you! :)

  2. Backup, backup, backup. And if you’re on WordPress, make sure you have backups of both your site files AND your database. Good luck!
