Have you seen this adorable Chevron Magnetic Memo Board? Believe it or not, I made it with just $2! That includes the bow, which you can definitely do without. With a trip to Dollar Tree and some items from my craft supply closet, along with a little bit of patience, I created a cute and functional piece of wall decor for my new office-in-progress.

Crafting with Dollar Tree

Dollar Tree is my go-to store for inexpensive craft projects. All you need is a little imagination, some time to browse the aisles, and a few dollars, and you're good to go! For this particular project, head to the kitchen section and grab a cookie pan. Yes, a bakeware cookie pan! While it's perfect for baking cookies, I had bigger plans in mind.

Gather Your Supplies

If you're into crafting, chances are you have some paint lying around. You can either use spray paint or regular brush-on acrylic paint. Since my office color scheme consists of white, yellow, and gray, I already had white spray paint and yellow brush-on acrylic paint on hand.

Painting the Cookie Pan

Start by removing all packaging and stickers from the cookie pan. Place a trash bag or piece of plastic to protect your work surface. Patience is key for this step, as the paint may take some time to dry depending on factors like humidity and coat thickness. I recommend applying two thin coats of paint to both the front and back of the pan, allowing ample drying time between coats. You can do this in spare minutes throughout the day. I started the project the night before, applying one coat on each side before bed and finishing it up the next day.

Creating the Chevron Pattern

Laying out a Chevron pattern may take some time and finesse, but it's not difficult. I found a printable Chevron template from Life In Positudiness and used it for this project. Alternatively, you can trace the pattern onto the pan using tracing paper for a freehand painting approach. However, I opted for a crisper finish and relied on scissors and painter's tape.

Start by cutting out two strips of the Chevron pattern and tape them end to end, creating one long Chevron strip that spans the length of the pan. Use painter's tape to outline the edges of the pattern, making sure to trim each point where the tape intersects to achieve sharp points. Once you've taped both above and below the Chevron pattern, move it down and continue taping. Make sure to press the tape down firmly, especially around the edges and curves of the pan. Painter's tape allows for easy repositioning and ensures clean lines.

Add Some Color

Since I planned to have gray walls and white furniture in my office, I wanted to incorporate pops of yellow. Luckily, I had a bottle of yellow gloss paint in my craft closet that perfectly matched my vision. A quick coat of yellow paint was all I needed. If you choose a darker color, a second coat may be necessary. On white, one coat was sufficient.

After completing the painting, I prefer to remove the painter's tape while the paint is still wet. Carefully remove one strip of tape at a time, discarding it as you go, and allow the board to dry completely. Once dry, you can touch up any edges or spots that need additional coverage.

End Result

Isn't it cute? I can't wait to hang it on the wall in my office! It would also make a great addition to a kitchen or serve as a photo memory board in a guest room. And the best part? I only spent $2 on supplies at Dollar Tree! I might even swap out the bow with seasonal decor each month, like an egg cluster for Easter or a Gerber Daisy for Spring, both of which I can find for just $1 at Dollar Tree.
