It’s A Fry Party {Fry It And They Will Come}

What the heck is a Fry Party?  Well, basically it’s a social gathering (aka – party) where everyone brings something to batter and fry.  We’re not talking fish and chicken, oh no.  If you can imagine it, you can fry it.  Cardiologist everywhere are planning their summer vacations.

Fry Party - MamaMommyMomNo, it wasn’t healthy.  No, it’s not something we’ll be doing often – once a year at most.  Yes, my stomach is a little questionable today.  Yes, it was totally worth it.

We set up a “frying tent”, had the kids playing far, far away, pulled out the cornhole boards and heated up the fryers.  Everyone brought things they wanted to try fried, we battered it up and dropped it in.  There was a savory batter – 3 parts flour, 1 part corn meal, garlic powder and salt to taste (plus water, of course) and a sweet batter – pancake mix, vanilla to taste (plus water, of course).  The meats and veggies were dipped in the savory batter and fruit and other dessert type items in the sweet batter.

Deep Fried PB&J - Fry Party MamaMommyMomWhat We Fried

Pepperocini

Sweet Red Peppers

Dill Pickles

Mushrooms

Apple

Pineapple

Pear

Bacon

Pork Tenderloin

Kebobs of Pork, Apples, Peppers and Pineapple

Oreos (Original and Cake Batter)

Peach Cobbler

Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches

Marshmallows

… and I’m sure I’m forgetting things

Fry Party Friends - MamaMommyMomA few standouts were the Deep Fried Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches and the Pineapple.  Wow – so good!  I can’t even explain how delicious the warm, gooey peanut butter was.  The Deep Fried Peach Cobbler was also pretty amazing, but I was so nauseatingly full by the time we got to the cobbler, I could only taste a bite.  And while the fried deliciousness was amazing, the best part of the whole shebang was the time spent with friends chatting, prepping, cooking and just having a great time on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

While we won’t be frying again anytime soon, I imagine we’ll do this again.  Probably with chicken and salad – and absolutely no deep fryers.  At least until next year…

  1. Wow, I love fried foods in moderation, too. Like maybe once a month – otherwise my digestive system hates me.

What Kristen said!! This looks like so much fun. I have a bunch of health nuts in my neighborhoof so I don’t think I could convince them to do this on the next block party, but I’m GONNA TRY.
