Please excuse me while I recover from a coma…

Ah!  Vacation food.
Vacation is one of the handful of times a year that I literally give myself no restrictions.  Nada.  It was like a food free-for-all.
First stop, Mr. P’s Bistro in Southport.  It’s a cute little place, right on the main road through town, that serves some super yummy food.  The first time we had dinner at Mr. P’s was in 2003.  We’ve gone back every time we’ve been in town since.
To start, we ordered their delicious Hot Back Fin Crab Dip.  It’s amazingly smooth and just oozes with flavor.  It’s served with buttery, delicious garlic bread.  The flavor combination is to die for.
Next up, the Hubs entree… Crab Stuffed Shrimp.  Hello, mama!  Big, fat shrimp stuffed with crab and topped with Asiago cheese.  On the side, rosemary potatoes and green beans with butter and thyme.  I don’t cook with thyme very much, but it’s on my shopping list for this week.
On my plate, Shrimp Gumbo with Deep Fried Grits and Parmesan Fried Green Tomatoes.  I was in deep-fried heaven.  Seriously.  Who came up with the idea to deep-fry grits?  I’d love to know so I can give him or her a big kiss.  Jumbo shrimp, Andouille sausage, peppers, onions…. Mmmm!  The Parmesan Fried Green Tomatoes were awesome too, but the Gumbo was definitely the star.
After nearly eating ourselves into an oblivion on Monday, we took it easy until Wednesday when we visited Kure Beach and a little place called Pop’s.  Pop’s is a little diner that serves a small, specialized menu.  They have some amazing burgers (I had roast beef) and chicken.  The wow factor for me… the desserts.  Deep-fried yummies.
Ladies and Gentlemen, this is a Deep-Fried Twinkie.  There’s some homemade vanilla ice cream on the side, but you probably can’t see it.  The Deep-Fried Twinkie eclipses everything else.  I managed to get a few bites before my 4 year old tore through it.  I should have ordered her one for herself.

These, little lovelies, are Deep-Fried Mint Oreos.  My mom ordered these.  I really don’t even care for Oreos, but I gave these a shot.  Deep-Fried Twinkie?  What Deep-Fried Twinkie?  I know nothing other than the Nirvana that is Deep-Fried Mint Oreos.  And, how many times can I use the term ‘deep-fried’ in one post?
I think I might have it out of my system now.  Maybe.
Well, not really.  I made notes while we ate at Mr P’s.  You’ll be seeing what I come up with soon…
