The opportunity to participate in a ride along with the Richard Petty Junior Ride Along Experience was provided to Mama.Mommy.Mom. free of cost. All thoughts and opinions are our own and are in no way influenced by the sponsor. Buckle up and enjoy!
There are very few things which really excite me. And to be honest, most things I really get excited about are the small things in life. Like going to the arts festival and finding the perfect color handmade dish rags I love! Or making a recipe and it turns out perfect and it is my new favorite. I am a simple person. But I have to admit I love, love, love NASCAR! I love it up close and in my face – the sounds, the smell and the feel of it all. Most people don’t know this about me and if you met me you would probably be shocked once you realized how downright excited I get being at the track.
So I got an email from The Head Mama asking if my daughter wanted to participate in the Richard Petty Junior Ride Along Experience at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Her daughter is not tall enough and she knew my daughter was. I immediately said YES!!! I go went to my daughter’s room to tell her about it and she was not at all excited – she actually didn’t want to do it. (Now mind you my daughter does like a little NASCAR and she loves roller coasters). I was absolutely in shock and said “Well, we are going on Friday anyways and if you don’t want to ride in the car it is fine but we are going”.
She clearly was aware of how excited I was about the opportunity for her to check out the Richard Petty Junior Ride Along Experience and knew she was going no matter what – but I would not MAKE her ride in the car. (Really?! Seriously?! You don’t want to ride in a NASCAR and go around the track at like 100 MPH! Really?! Seriously?!)
So the morning arrived and we headed to the track. I was nearly squealing in delight. We got there and they sent us to the back tunnel to drive into the center of the track. (Please, please don’t pee your pants Momma!) I was giddy with excitement and J is just rolling her eyes at me. She still at this point wasn’t going to ride but we would hang out and watch all the other kids. Oh yeah the other kids, who were all younger than her – they were excited and ready to go.
We sat through the introductions of some key players at the Richard Petty Junior Ride Along Experience and got directions on what was going to happen. I leaned over to J and say “you don’t have to do it, but I will tell you I am going to cry either way.” We walked out to PIT ROW! Yes my fellow mommies and fellow NASCAR enthusiasts I was standing behind the wall on Pit row. (Please, please don’t pee your pants Momma!) I was trying to act mature and normal the whole time but my insides were crawling with excitement. So J looked at me and says she was going to do it!!!!! (Please, please don’t cry momma!)
So she got all suited up!
We waited for her turn. I was standing 3 feet away from where they started the car and watched it speed away. I was snapping pictures like crazy.
So then it is J’s turn.
Ok, I was really excited for her and jealous as can be. As excited as I was I did not CRY! Not that I care one bit about crying in public but I didn’t embarrass my baby.
When she was all done with her three laps, I looked in the car at her and she had a smile on her face. I was ready to jump for joy. I asked her how it was after she got out of the car and she said “It was fun”. Woohoo!! I knew she would like it!!! She definitely thought going 140 mph in a car was cool.
We got a picture and a video of the experience which was really nice. Although my daughter, who is so worried what people think, sat stone faced most of the ride because she knew she was being videotaped. Dang kid – show your momma’s genes why don’t you.
So, all in all, it was a great experience for all of us. All the other kids had a great time. I would highly recommend the Richard Petty Junior Ride Along Experience to anyone whose kids are 48 inches tall and up to the age of 13. If they like NASCAR or just a good thrill rides, this will be right up their alley!
I can’t wait until I get a chance to do it myself!
