Vacation, Food and What’s New {Take Shape For Life – Week 13} #TSFL (Sponsored)

A special ‘thanks’ to Take Shape for Life for setting me up on my weight loss journey, even if I did take a break for vacation.  Take Shape for Life has provided me with a health coach and all of the products/materials I need to evaluate their program and take this journey toward a healthier, much smaller me.  While the products/materials are free to me, that will in no way influence my opinion of the program or any of the information I share with you through this journey.  All thoughts and opinions will be mine and they will be honest, even when vacation sends me back a step or two.

We’ve been back in town for 3 days.  3 very long days.  Why so long?  First, I don’t know about you but I always feel like I need a vacation after vacation.  I’m exhausted!  Second, I’m detoxing and detoxing kinda sucks.  I knew better than doing 99% of what I did on vacation, but I did it anyway.  I’m paying my price, and I’m ok with that.  Starting bright and early Sunday morning, I was back on plan.

Let’s rewind for a minute…

I knew I had the option of packing all of my meals and taking them with me.  It was doable.  I made the choice not to do that and to have things that I knew were not healthy while I was on vacation.  I also knew that doing so meant several things… 1) The potential existed to make myself really sick – your body will often tell you when it doesn’t like how it’s being treated.  2) There would be a price to pay when I got home – the scale doesn’t lie.  3) Detoxing is a rough, no fun, three day process that I would need to start first thing Sunday – there would be no wiggle room.

I rocked it.

The best part about vacation… I rocked a bikini top (couldn’t let go of my shorts – I like them far too much) for the first time in a very, very long time.  Like 10+ years.  You can see a marked difference in the color of my skin between my arms and my nearly bared stomach.  It’s been hidden for far too long.

Consider this your PSA for sunscreen…

I may have rocked it too hard.

Clouds do not equal no sunscreen.  That was a bad, bad move.  I look a bit lobster-ish, eh?  Needless to say, I rocked a t-shirt and a tent on the beach for several days.

I also may have rocked a few too many of these…

Alcohol is a definite no-no when you’re on plan, but at least I went with the lower calorie/lower carb option, right?  (I’m totally making excuses for myself here.)

Despite the food, the beer and the raging sun burn, I didn’t forgo my exercise. The beach is an excellent place for a good walk, or even a 7-miler.  The scenery can’t be beat – at least not at our little haven – and the breeze sure is nice too.

About half way into a 7 mile jaunt…

Seven miles goes by way, way faster when it looks like this…

Beautiful, right?

My indiscretions clearly show on the scale, as I have gone in the wrong direction for the first time in 13 weeks of the Take Shape For Life program.  I consider it only a minor set back on a long journey, one that will be far more important in the end that the one week I veered off course.  Vacation was merely a week of ‘taking the long way around’ and not something I’ll be repeating often. I’ve already seen a drop since going back on plan (I will not share the day I got home weigh in, as it was ridiculous and mostly water weight, but rather my regular Wednesday numbers…

How do you eat when on vacation?  Does your diet change?  Is it a conscious thing or do you stick to your normal routine, even when traveling with a group?

Stick around and be sure to check in next week when we see if I’ve kissed my vacation pounds goodbye!
