Do you know who Sean Astin is? If you ask my husband, he’ll immediately say ‘Goonies‘ (so, before my time), but for me, he’s always been Rudy (one of the BEST movies ever!) Post Rudy days, Sean wasn’t really on my radar very much until the last few years. He’s been pretty active in politics and he’s run some Disney races with a few of my friends. I’ve always heard what a nice guy he is, though I’ve never I’ve never met him in person.
In the last very months, I’ve made a new friend… she happens to actually know Sean in person, like she can call him up and have a little chit chat, which is pretty cool. It was through her that I found out about Sean’s Kickstarter campaign and his hatchling podcast Vox Populi: Voice of the ‘Occasionally Interested’ People.
The concept is one that I can whole-heartedly back.
“On the show, we’re going to force ourselves to listen to each other, and we’ll be better for it.” – Sean
I am a firm believer in that everyone has a right to their thoughts and opinions, and that listening to the thoughts and opinions of others is the only only way we will ever grow and learn. That is exactly in line with Sean’s goals for the show.
“I want to hear their points of view, even if they are the total opposite of mine. I want to learn, I want to grow.” – Sean
Sean has wanted to host a political show for over 25 years, and now he has one. As Vox Populi has grown, it’s been virtually unfunded. Sean’s Kickstarter campaign is an effort to pull in a little (and I do mean a little) funding to get some much needed staff in place to take the show to the next level. If his approach is something you can get behind, and you have the means to do it, I encourage you to pledge $5 or $10 toward his project. If you can’t, that’s ok! What you can do is check out the show… Thursdays 12-2 pm at ToadHop Network.
What do you think of the concept of Sean’s show? Is it something you’d be interested in listening to or being a part of?
