I’m sitting in my office debating whether or not to let my kids get a hamster. It has nothing to do with water, but that’s where I am today. Where was I over the weekend? On the water! The weather has just started to warm up a bit (though Spring in NC tends to be a bit bi-polar, so I’m sure we’ll still have plenty of days with highs in the 30s and 40s) and the lake was calling.
I nestled myself into a cozy blanketed bundle – it was a bit windy – and enjoyed riding around on the lake, watching the wildlife and taking pictures. It was nice to be out of reach for a few hours and just enjoy the sounds of the birds, the water lapping against the side of the boat and the “plunk” of lures hitting the water.
I love looking at houses. Big ones, little ones, some that are new and some that are on the verge of being a pile of scraps waiting to be reclaimed. This old place has seen better days. I like to imagine what i could to with them if I had an unlimited budget and access to the necessary resources. I also wonder what the inside looks like. Was it cleaned out or is it full of old treasures?
It wasn’t fair to leave the kiddos or our four-legged friends out of have fun, so Sunday called for a trip to the pond to let our kids and our “kids” enjoy the warm weather too. Fenway is a water beast. He loves every minute of it, no matter how cold the water is.
The way he snaps at the balls in the water makes me think of an alligator. He would drop one, grab another, drop that one and then finally decide which one he was bringing back to the shore. He tried to bring back more than one at a time, but it didn’t work out too well for him. There’s nothing quite like the smell of wet dog mixed with fishy water.
Fenway looks mean, doesn’t he? He’s not. He’s the sweetest boy ever! I’m looking forward to more warm days on the horizon, and despite the fact that he’s willing to jump into 60 degree pond water (but hates a nice warm bath!?), I know Fenway is looking forward to Spring too.
Does your family have favorite outdoor activities you can’t wait to get back into? My kiddos are already asking about the US National Whitewater Center and Tweetsie Railroad. What activities and places are you looking forward to enjoying as the weather gets warmer?
