Zone Power Bar GiveawayThe Easy Part

New Years resolutions and year long goals are easy to make, the hard part is actually keeping them.  By March, many of the January gym goers have settled back on their couch and so many of those good intentions have gone out the window.  Back in January, I made a very public pronouncement of my goals for 2014.  As we’re nearing the half way point, I’m here, publicly checking in.  My goals were pretty simple to lay out.  They were:

1) Maintain

2) Eat

3) Endurance

4) Me

The Not-So-Easy Part

Many of life’s goals are easier said than done and my four goals were no exception.  Let’s work backwards…  The one goal among the 4 that I’d say I’m making the biggest strides toward is finding time for me.  I’ve been doing more reading, seeing my friends more, and doing more of what *I* want to do.  Score 1 for me!

One of the things I’ve not been so good at has been using “me” time to exercise.  Part of it I’ll blame on the fact that most of my “me” time is after dark, but I don’t have that excuse anymore (yay, summer!) and I’ll be getting my butt in gear to work on my running endurance.  I have something up my sleeve to help with that, but I can’t let that cat (so to speak) out of the bag just yet – check back in a few weeks though… I’ll be spilling the beans around the 20th of June.

My strangest goal, “eat” hasn’t been as much of a struggle as I expected.  I have stocked my office with healthy snacking options (popcorn, fruit, veggies, ZonePerfect bars, granola, yogurt) and if I find myself hungry and not able to get a full meal, I grab a snack and squish the hunger.  Keeping myself from getting to the point of “starving” makes it easier to keep from overeating at meal time.

Which brings us to my original goal – maintain.  I’m not thrilled with myself, but I have gained a few pounds.  I could come up with a lot of excuses, but I’d rather spend the time working on fixing it.  I had a few sedentary months, but I am back on the right track (being more active, more vigilant about what I’m eating) and I have no doubt that I’ll be giving you a much better report when I post my next update.

I had such good intentions. My primary goal was to cook and eat a more healthy diet. Then I get on Pinterest, and everything that I want to make has calories or fat grams that would choke a horse. I have resisted most of them, but now and again I indulge and treat myself.

  3. Leela says:

    Getting fit.

  4. Angela Cash says:

I am doing great on my 2014 goals. My dogs are always ready to get outside and romp around so they are fantastic fitness partners. Our fave activities are riding bike trails and swimming.
